Lesson 3: Explaining Your Services

πŸ“… July 14, 2026 ⏱ ~25 minutes πŸ“Š Level: Beginner 🎯 Skill: Speaking + Vocabulary

In Lesson 1, you learned how to greet a client. In Lesson 2, you learned how to ask questions and understand their problems. Now comes the big moment: the client is listening β€” what do you say?

In this lesson, you will learn how to:

πŸ“Œ The Golden Rule of Sales

Clients don't buy services. They buy results. Don't say "I make websites." Say "I help you get more customers through a professional website." Always answer the client's unspoken question: "What's in it for me?"

Part 1: Revision β€” Lessons 1 & 2 Quick Check

Before we learn new things, let's recall what you already know. Say these out loud from memory β€” don't read the answers first:

Recall Practice (Storage Strength)
  1. You are meeting a restaurant owner at 2 PM. How do you greet him? β†’ (think first, then check below)
  2. You want to ask: "How many customers come to your restaurant every day?" Make this question. β†’ (think first…)
  3. The client says he has no website. You want to ask why. Make this question. β†’ (think first…)
Click to check answers
  1. "Good afternoon, sir. My name is Altamash. I work in digital marketing."
  2. "How many customers do you get every day?" (Remember: do is required β€” don't drop it!)
  3. "Why do you not have a website?" or "Why don't you have a website?"
⚠ Common Hindi Speaker Mistake

Wrong: "How many customer come?" ← missing do, missing -s on "customers"
Right: "How many customers do you get?"
Hindi doesn't need a helping verb for questions β€” English does. Keep practicing this!

Part 2: Grammar β€” Present Continuous Tense

In Lesson 1, you learned the Simple Present β€” for things that are always true or happen regularly:

Simple Present (review)

"I sell websites." β†’ This is what you do as a job β€” it's always true.

But what about things happening right now, at this moment? Or things you have planned for soon? For that, we use the Present Continuous tense.

When to Use It

Structure: How to Make It

Positive (+)

Subject + am / is / are + verb-ing

I am working on a project right now.
He is looking for a web developer.
They are searching for restaurants on Google.
We are offering a special price this week.

Negative (βˆ’)

Subject + am / is / are + not + verb-ing

I am not charging extra for this.
Your business is not appearing on Google Maps.
Customers are not finding your shop online.

Question (?)

Am / Is / Are + subject + verb-ing?

Are you getting enough customers from the internet?
Is your website bringing you any business?
Are your competitors using Google Ads?

πŸ’‘ Remember: am / is / are

I β†’ am  |  He / She / It β†’ is  |  You / We / They β†’ are
This is the same for questions β€” just flip the order: "He is working" β†’ "Is he working?"

Simple Present vs. Present Continuous β€” When to Use Which?

Simple Present Present Continuous
I sell websites. (always β€” my job) I am building a website right now. (happening now)
He runs a restaurant. (fact) He is running a promotion this week. (temporary)
We offer SEO services. (always available) We are offering a discount this month. (limited time)
Customers search on Google. (general truth) More customers are searching online now. (trend happening now)
⚠ Hindi Speaker Trap

In Hindi, "Main kaam kar raha hoon" and "Main kaam karta hoon" both feel similar. In English, they are very different:
"I am working" = right now, at this moment
"I work" = in general, as a routine/habit
Using the wrong one makes your English sound unnatural. Pay attention to when the action is happening.

Part 3: Your Five Services β€” How to Explain Them

Now let's learn how to explain each of your five services in simple English. For each service, you will learn:

Service 1: Website Development

What it is:

A website is your business's home on the internet. It shows your services, your contact number, your photos, and your location β€” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The benefit:

A professional website helps customers find you, trust you, and contact you β€” even when your shop is closed.

Ready-to-use pitch:

"Sir, right now, when customers search for [your type of business] in [your city], they are finding your competitors β€” not you. A professional website will make sure they find you first. And I am currently building websites for businesses like yours."

Service 2: Google Business Profile (GBP) Optimization

What it is:

Google Business Profile is your free listing on Google and Google Maps. When someone searches "restaurants near me" or "dentist in Lucknow," the list that appears β€” that is Google Business Profile.

The benefit:

When your GBP is optimized, your business appears at the top when people search nearby. More people see you β†’ more people call you β†’ more customers walk in.

Ready-to-use pitch:

"Sir, have you noticed that when you search for something on Google, three businesses appear on the map? Your competitors are already showing there. I can help your business appear in that top list. It is completely free on Google β€” I just help you set it up correctly."

Service 3: Google Street View (360Β° Virtual Tour)

What it is:

A 360Β° virtual tour is a digital walkthrough of your business. Customers can look around your shop, hotel, or restaurant from their phone β€” before they come in person.

The benefit:

People are more likely to visit a place they have already seen inside. A virtual tour builds trust and curiosity.

Ready-to-use pitch:

"Sir, imagine β€” a customer is deciding between your restaurant and the one next door. Your competitor has photos only. But on your profile, the customer can walk inside your restaurant virtually. They see the seating, the ambience, the kitchen. Who do you think they will visit?"

Service 4: SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

What it is:

SEO means making your website appear higher in Google search results. When someone searches "best hotel in Jaipur," SEO decides which hotel appears first.

The benefit:

The higher your website appears on Google, the more people click on it. Most people never go to page 2 of Google. SEO helps you stay on page 1.

Ready-to-use pitch:

"Sir, right now if someone searches for [your service] in [your city] on Google, are they finding your website? If not, you are losing customers every day to competitors who are appearing on Google. SEO is how we fix that."

Service 5: Digital Marketing

What it is:

Digital marketing means advertising your business on the internet β€” through Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.

The benefit:

With digital marketing, you can reach thousands of potential customers in your area β€” for much less money than newspaper or TV ads.

Ready-to-use pitch:

"Sir, every day, your potential customers are spending hours on their phones β€” on Google, Facebook, Instagram. Digital marketing puts your business right in front of them, at the exact moment they are looking for what you offer."

Part 4: The Benefit Bridge β€” Connecting Problem to Solution

In Lesson 2, you learned to discover the client's problems. Now you need a bridge β€” a sentence that connects their problem to your solution. This is the most powerful tool in sales English.

The Formula

The Benefit Bridge

"You mentioned that [client's problem]. That is exactly why [your solution + benefit]."

Examples Using Each Service

Website:

"You mentioned that customers don't know about your new menu. That is exactly why a website helps β€” you can update it anytime, and customers can see it 24 hours a day."

GBP:

"You mentioned that people walk past your shop without stopping. That is exactly why Google Business Profile helps β€” when people search 'near me,' your shop will appear on the map with your phone number and reviews."

Virtual Tour:

"You mentioned that customers come once but don't return. That is exactly why a virtual tour helps β€” new customers can see how beautiful your place is before they visit."

SEO:

"You mentioned that your competitors are getting more business. That is exactly why SEO helps β€” we will make sure your website appears before theirs on Google."

Digital Marketing:

"You mentioned that newspaper ads are expensive and not working. That is exactly why digital marketing helps β€” you can reach more people for less money and see exactly how many people saw your ad."

πŸ’‘ Pro Tip: "You mentioned that…"

Starting with "You mentioned that…" shows the client you were listening. It builds trust immediately. Practice saying this phrase until it feels natural.

Part 7: Roleplay β€” Practice with a Real Scenario

You have learned the knowledge. Now it's time to practice the skill. This roleplay is different from Lessons 1 and 2 β€” this time, you write your own dialogue.

Scenario

You are meeting Dr. Sharma, who runs a dental clinic in your city. You have already greeted him and asked questions (Lessons 1 & 2). Here is what you learned from your questions:

πŸ“Œ Your Task

Write or speak out loud a 3–4 sentence pitch to Dr. Sharma. Use:

  1. The Benefit Bridge: "You mentioned that…"
  2. At least one Present Continuous sentence
  3. At least two of your five services
  4. Focus on benefits, not features

After you write it, say it out loud 3 times. Then ask your teacher (me!) to check it β€” use the /teach command and paste your pitch.

Click to see an example pitch (read ONLY after you try your own)
Altamash:

"Dr. Sharma, you mentioned that patients are going to the new clinic because it looks modern online. That is exactly why you need a professional website and a complete Google Business Profile. Right now, I am helping many doctors and dentists become more visible on Google. When patients search 'dentist near me,' your clinic will appear at the top β€” with your photos, your reviews, and your contact number. And with a virtual tour, patients can see your modern clinic before they visit. They will choose you over the competition."

Part 8: Pronunciation Corner

Practice saying these words. The CAPITAL part is the stressed syllable β€” say it louder and longer.

Practice These 5 Times Each

πŸ“ Homework β€” Due Before Next Lesson

  1. Write 5 sentences about what is happening right now in your work β€” use the Present Continuous tense.
Example: "I am talking to a new client about SEO."
  2. Write a Benefit Bridge pitch for a shop owner who says: "I have a good shop but only local people know about me." Use at least 2 services.
  3. Practice the 5 service explanations from Part 3 out loud. Record yourself on your phone and listen back.
  4. Read the resource: British Council β€” Present Continuous β€” do the practice exercises at the bottom of the page.
  5. Vocabulary review: Cover the "Meaning" column in the vocabulary table above and try to define each word from memory.
