Lesson 9: Conditionals, Risk-Free Guarantees & Strategic Follow-Up

πŸ“… July 23, 2026 ⏱ ~25 minutes πŸ“Š Level: Beginner–Intermediate 🎯 Skill: Cause-and-Effect Proposals + Guarantees + Follow-Up Cadence

In sales, prospects rarely buy on the very first meeting. A shop or restaurant owner will often say, "I need time to think," or "What guarantee do I have?" To turn these hesitant prospects into paying clients, you need two power tools:

πŸ“Œ Why Conditionals & Guarantees Matter For You

In field sales, client resistance comes from fear of loss. When you use First Conditional structures correctly, you connect your service directly to their business outcome. Furthermore, 80% of sales require 5 follow-ups, yet 44% of salespeople give up after 1 follow-up. Master this lesson to close deals other salespeople leave behind! Part 1: Spaced Retrieval β€” Revision Drill

Let's check your storage strength from previous lessons before introducing new concepts.

πŸ” Modal Verb & Closing Recall

Quiz 1 β€” Modal Verb Selection

Which polite option is best when recommending a package to a client?

Quiz 2 β€” Present Perfect vs Simple Past

A client asks: 'Have you worked with restaurant clients before?' What is the correct answer?

Part 2: Grammar β€” Conditionals (If... then...)

A Conditional sentence talks about a condition (a cause) and its result (the effect). In sales, we use two main conditional structures:

1. The First Conditional (Real Future Possibility)

Use the First Conditional when offering a real proposal, promise, or incentive that will happen if the client takes action.

Formula: First Conditional

If + Present Simple (Condition) , Subject + WILL / CAN / COULD + Base Verb V1 (Result)

β€’ If you update your Google Business Profile, local clients will find your shop easily.
β€’ If we add a 360 Virtual Tour, your page visits will increase by 40%.
β€’ If you approve the proposal today, we can start design work tomorrow.

⚠️ The #1 Indian English Conditional Trap

NEVER use 'will' in the IF clause!
❌ Incorrect (Indian English): "If you will pay advance, we will start work."
βœ… Correct International English: "If you pay the advance, we will start work."
Rule (Murphy Unit 38): After if, use the Simple Present (pay, launch, sign), NOT will pay!

2. The Zero Conditional (Universal Sales Facts)

Use the Zero Conditional to state automatic business facts that are always true.

Formula: Zero Conditional

If + Present Simple (Cause) , Present Simple (Automatic Result)

β€’ If a business lacks a website, it loses online customers every day.
β€’ If your Google Maps pin is unverified, competitors take your top ranking.

3. Using 'Unless' (If Not)

Unless means If... not. It creates urgency by highlighting the cost of doing nothing.

Formula: Unless + Simple Present

β€’ Unless you optimize your profile, local customers will go to other stores.
(Translation: If you do not optimize your profile, local customers will go to other stores.)

Part 4: Sales Skills β€” Guarantee Formulas & Strategic Follow-Up

A. The Conditional Guarantee Formula

When clients express doubt, combine a First Conditional with a low-risk guarantee:

Formula: "If [Action Client Takes], we will [Deliverable Value]. If [Problem Occurs], we will [Risk-Free Guarantee]."

Example: "If you select the Growth Package today, we will deliver your website within 7 days. If you are not satisfied with the design, we will make unlimited revisions until you love it."

B. The 3-Touch Strategic Follow-Up Sequence

When a prospect says "I need time to think," never say "Okay sir, call me whenever." Use this 3-touch follow-up framework over 5 days:

Touch 1 β€” Day 1 (WhatsApp Value Summary)

"Hi Mr. Gupta, thank you for your time today! As discussed, if we launch your 360 Virtual Tour this week, you will capture the upcoming weekend traffic. I have attached the proposal here for your review."

Touch 2 β€” Day 3 (Proof & Case Study Share)

"Good morning Mr. Gupta! I wanted to share a quick update: a nearby electronics showroom just increased their calls by 35% after optimizing their profile. If you are available for 5 minutes today, we can discuss how to do the same for your store."

Touch 3 β€” Day 5 (The Incentive Close)

"Hi Mr. Gupta! We are finalizing our onboarding schedule for next week. If you confirm by 5 PM today, we will include 1 month of free Google Business Profile maintenance as an exclusive bonus. Would you like me to send the invoice?"

Mr. Sharma: "Hello Altamash. Look, your 360 tour concept sounds nice, but I am not sure. What if I invest β‚Ή15,000 and don't get any extra customers?"

Altamash: "I completely understand your concern, Mr. Sharma. Every smart business owner wants to protect their investment. But let me share how this works: If we upload the 360Β° Virtual Tour to your Google Business Profile, your profile will receive up to 45% more direct customer directions on Google Maps."

Mr. Sharma: "Can you guarantee that?"

Altamash: "Yes, absolutely! We provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you select our Growth Package today, we will handle complete Google verification and optimization. If your listing is not verified within 7 days, we will refund your deposit in full."

Mr. Sharma: "That sounds fair. What if I need changes later?"
